Winners of the 2021 John Gordon Award give judges their toughest task ever!
After receiving an unprecedented number of entries for the 2021 competition and serious deliberation by the judging panel it was decided to award 2 prizes – a dedicated safety person award and a non-safety person award.

These awards went to Enya McNally, Health and Safety Adviser from South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust (Safety Person)

and John Doran, Facilities Manager, from Terex, Omagh (Non-Safety Person).
Bill McAllister of Safety Advice Centre Ltd., sponsor of the NISG John Gordon Award, presented both awards and congratulated Enya and John on the sterling work they had carried out in the face of the Covid pandemic and explained that they both lived up to the high standard that the John Gordon Award was designed to celebrate.
Safety Person Award
Enya’s project on developing a reporting, investigation and management of Covid19 issues procedure significantly benefited the Trust and in delivering the project she exhibited immense energy and passion, proactively engaging with all Stakeholders both within and external to the Trust. Bill said “it is obvious that Enya has a long and successful career ahead of her in the Trust working to protect the safety health and wellbeing of Staff and others”.

Non-Safety Person Award
John headed up a team of 6 at the Terex, Omagh facility, putting in great effort to keep the company functioning through the pandemic. Bill said “John and his team stepped up and immediately responded to their H&S team’s request for assistance and provided immense help and time, even outside of their normal working hours, ensuring the factory was able to get back up and running after the lockdown in March 2020. John ensured his team were on site to plan, devise solutions and put measures in place so that factory employees could return to work in a safe manner”.

It is clear to see that these two winners showed strength and courage in an exceptionally difficult period of time and their clear thinking and quiet manner ensured that their workplaces remained calm and colleagues felt able to carry on with their jobs to the best of their ability.
