Special Olympics Ulster looking for volunteer H & S Officer
Jim Pow from Clanmil Housing sent in the following request for a volunteer.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN AN EXTRAORDINARY TEAM?
Special Olympics Ireland is an organisation who organise year round sports training and competition programmes for children and adults with a learning and/or intellectual disability. Some of the sports include Football, Golf, Swimming, Athletics, Badminton, 10 Pin Bowling, Bocce, Gymnastics and Skiing.
During the year competitions are held throughout Northern Ireland and are organised by Event Teams made up of volunteers. One of the posts is a Safety Officer whose role is to ensure events are run safely. The role is not onerous, probably a couple of days a year (or more if you have the time).
Jim Pow, a former member of the NISG Executive Committee has been a volunteer with Special Olympics Ulster for over seven years and cannot praise the organisation enough. “The time I spend in my role as Event Manager with Special Olympics is very important to me. It gives me immense pleasure in seeing the results of my efforts which is evidenced by the joy on the athletes faces – whether they win or lose – it is quite simply an incredibly rewarding experience and have no hesitation in recommending it as a volunteering role to others”
If you would like to find out more about the role of Safety Officer with Special Olympics Ulster, they would love to hear from you – if you are interested please give Keith Thompson a call on 028 9089 2994 or keith.thompson@specialolympics.ie and he will provide details of what is involved. Jim too can help and if you’d like to speak to him regarding his experiences, call him on 028 9087 6000, 07921 057156 (mobile) or jim.pow@clanmil.org.uk.
