Report into ill treatment in the workplace
Report produced by Cardiff University and the Economic and Social Research Council
New research led by a team from Cardiff University has found that half of British workers have been ill-treated in the last two years.
The survey found 4.9% of workers were victims of violence while 22.3% said they were treated in a disrespectful or rude way. 27% said they felt ignored. Forty per cent of employees experience incivility or disrespect over a two year period. Managers and supervisors are the most important source of incivility and disrespect but more of this kind of ill-treatment is meted out by co-workers, and by customers and clients.
The study used data from face-to-face interviews with 3,979 workers.
