New Waste Industry Safety & Health Forum for Northern Ireland
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is delighted to be part of an initiative announced today to launch a Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) forum for the waste sector in Northern Ireland at the end of March 2012. Though the new forum, CIWM, the Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland and others will be working collaboratively with all the relevant bodies to promote and raise the standards of health and safety across the waste sector in Northern Ireland.
"The collection, treatment and disposal of wastes involves industrial processes that carry risks and the industry takes these risks and its responsibility to manage and mitigate them very seriously," says CIWM chief executive Steve Lee.
"Risk assessments and safe systems of work that are well managed provide for a safe workplace for people employed in the industry and there has been a substantial reduction in the number of incidents in recent years due to the commitment shown by many waste companies in the industry to maintaining high standards of health and safety. We aim to build on this and the new WISH (NI) forum will support the whole sector in driving up performance even further."
The WISH (NI) launch will be held on 28 March 2012 at the Stormont Hotel in Belfast. For more information, please contact Raymond Martin at raymond.martin@ciwm.co.uk
