Huge fine for accident at zoo
TV interior designer Anna Ryder Richardson's privately-owned zoo was forced to pay out more than £100,000 to a mother and her toddler who were crushed on a visit there by a falling tree. A court heard the Changing Rooms presenter and her husband knew there were dangerous trees at their zoo but "closed their eyes" to the risk. The incident occurred at the Manor House Animal Park, in Pembrokeshire, in 2010. Anna's company, Manor House Wildlife, admitted two breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act. Her 46-year-old husband pleaded guilty to similar charges. The court heard that her husband refused to shut the park after the accident and its closure had to be forced on him by council officials.
