Football ground fireball injured labourer
A builder has been prosecuted under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) after a worker was seriously burned in a gas explosion at Macclesfield Town FC’s training ground.
Stephen Rowley was working in a trench at the Egerton Youth Club and was attempting to remove damaged pipe work to repair a septic tank.
But when an underground pipe containing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was damaged by a digger operator, sparks from the power tool he was using ignited the escaping gas and created a fireball in the trench.
