Construction Vehicles on the Public Road
QPANI and FTA receive clarification from PSNI regarding the use of Construction Vehicles on the Public Road
The QPANI and Freight Transport Association have received clarification on the use of construction vehicles on the public road. In response to both Associations questions the PSNI have said:
“there is a court ruling on works trucks which allows for these vehicles to be used a maximum distance of 1.1 miles from the works site. This usually involves travelling to storage yards or to sites where material is deposited. Some construction sites are fragmented, for example the current A8 dual carriageway project, and this principle applies to the A8 site as well as other similarly fragmented sites. Thus should a works truck require to travel outside the site, the 1.1 mile rule can apply. Local Police traffic units should respect this rule and it will allow the contractor some flexibility. This rule avoids the need for road tax, however the requirement for insurance and the correct licence still applies”.
If any member has any other questions regarding this ruling please don’t hesitate to contact QPANI or the FTA.
