Farming I HSENI Update
As Farm Safety Partnership Affiliates, HSENI have advised us that they will be continuing with the Workplace Transport Campaign throughout the rest of this year. When visiting farms, Inspectors will be looking for evidence of thorough examinations being carried out on telehandlers and also for evidence of training completed on both telehandlers and ATV’s.
From visits already carried out, HSENI Inspectors have reported that they are coming across farmers in some instances who are not aware of this Workplace Transport Campaign or indeed their responsibilities regarding through examination of telehandlers or training in ATVs and telehandlers for use on the farm. They say that this is disappointing as farm vehicles continue to be one of the main causes of accidents on the farm and there is a need to ensure that farmers are up to date on their responsibilities in relation to this.
View the HSENI advertisement here. This is featured in this week’s farming press, detailing what is legally expected of farmers.
Spread this message to your employees and supply chains, as many will also be involved in local farming, so that farmers will be fully aware of their legal responsibilities and will know what to expect when an Inspector next visits their farm.
Note that NISG will have a stand at the Antrim Farming Show on Saturday 27th July 24 and at Clogher Valley Show on Wednesday 31st July 24 and we look forward to speaking to many of you there.
