Mental Health Matters
When ‘Carla’s’ husband first developed mental health problems, her family’s life was thrown into chaos. Her husband had always been the breadwinner for their young family - his illness was to cost them dearly. His eventual diagnosis of clinical depression did nothing to lessen the torment. He lost his job and all their hopes and dreams disappeared. He was admitted to hospital on at least 14 occasions in 10 years, and on many occasions, they came close to losing their home. Carla worried about the effect all this upheaval was having on their children, who were frightened and confused, just like Carla was. Carla tried to get help for them, but there was nothing available. She tried to get help for herself, but again there seemed to be no help available.
‘I was alone until I contacted CAUSE! I did not feel equipped for my new role” said Carla “CAUSE became my life raft in very stormy seas and has been that guiding hand for my family.’
Cause’s mission is to provide practical and emotional support to empower families, partners and friends caring for a loved one who has experienced serious mental illness.
