IOSH - JUDGEMENT DAY FOR HEALTH & SAFETY
This event is a "must attend" date for all managing directors, directors and health & safety professionals.
The Conference will be opened by a senior member of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Senior Inspectors from the Northern Ireland Health & Safety Executive will begin proceedings by delivering presentations on the HSE(NI) strategy for criminal prosecutions and will then go on to discuss a number of recent landmark court cases.
The morning session will culminate in a mock criminal courtroom scenario which will provide the delegates with an insight into what can happen when you get it wrong in the world of Health & Safety.
This session will work through an incident and will incorporate police interviews and a court room scene involving a Health & Safety Manager and a Director. The verdict will be delivered by a retired High Court Judge and a Q&A session will follow.
The afternoon session will focus on civil court proceedings beginning with the Northern Ireland Managing Director of global giant Willis Group delivering a presentation entitled 'Insurance and Compensation - A Help or a Hindrance'.
This will be followed by a mock civil courtroom scenario. The aim of the hearing is to enable delegates to view and participate in the preparation and running of a court case focusing on a relevant health and safety issue. This is an opportunity to experience the emotional, practical and organisational issues arising from a civil court case.
Delegates will watch common errors unfold and see the actual consequences in a simulated hearing. Two practicing barristers will conduct this training exercise and will demonstrate how a civil action progresses providing delegates with guidance on the right and wrong way to present yourself and your evidence.
The compensation award will be delivered by a retired High Court Judge and this will be followed by a Q&A session where the delegates will have the opportunity to question the participants in the days events.
Each Q&A session will be chaired by the current national President of IOSH Subash Ludhra who is also a qualified Magistrate.
Considering the high quality of the presenters involved in this conference it is expected that places will fill quickly so please book early. This event attracts 2CPD points.
