Perhaps one of the most successful seminars the NISG have organised was held in the Kings Hall Conference Centre on 22^nd October 2007.  The CDM (NI) Regulations 2007 seminar was attended by 190 delegates.

The seminar was organised in such as way as to ensure that the responsibilities of each of the duty holders specified in the Regulations would be able to see exactly what is expected of them, the duty holders being:-

• The Client
• The Designer
• The CDM Coordinator
• The Principal Contractor
• The Contractor

The seminar was opened by Ken Logan from the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland who explained the key changes to the Regulations and what the role of the HSENI would be to ensure compliance. In order to ensure that delegates get the most from the Seminars organised by the Group, the NISG is keen to involve speakers who are able to give practical examples of how legislation affects within Northern Ireland.  To this end we were delighted that presentations on behalf of each of the duty holders were given as follows:-

• Pat Hannaway from NI Water (Client’s perspective)
• George Coulter from Gilligan & Partners (Designer’s perspective)
• Charlie Hutchinson from Charlie Hutchinson Consulting (CDM Coordinator)
• Neil MacKenzie from Lagan Construction (Principal Contractor’s perspective)
• Giles Hill from Litton Group (Contractor’s perspective)

The feedback from the seminar has been extremely positive and we are extremely grateful to those speakers to gave up their time to give presentations at the Seminar.  Most of all however, we are grateful to all members who came along to support the event.
