objectives, aims and commitment
to promotion Health and Safety
in the Workplace, as a member
you will be actively involved
in all areas of the organization.
What
benefits are there for members?
> Monthly Meetings:
The monthly meetings facilitate
an opportunity for members
representatives to interact
with others involved in
health and safety. They
focus on topics currently
relevant to as wide a cross
section of membership as
possible. Various organisations
are invited to deliver relevant
and challenging presentations
on a wide range of health
and safety related topics.

Safety Awards Scheme:(in association with the
National Irish Safety Organisation
(NISO)our counterpart
in the Republic of Ireland)
The overall aim of the Awards
Scheme is to improve safety
standards and recognise superior
performance in an organisation,
which in turn produces real
benefits in health and safety
management within those organisation
which meet the award criteria.
Winning an NISG Safety Award
is a prestigious accolade and
previous winners list the benefits
as including an increased profile
for their organisation within
it's sector or market place
and its employees amongst its
customers and suppliers.

Annual Health and Safety
Table Quiz.
A
health and safety quiz is
held each year for member
organisations which allows
employees, who may not be
directly responsible for
health and safety, an opportunity
to increase their knowledge
and understanding of the
subject in a relaxed and
informative environment.
Winners of this quiz are
invited to represent the
Group in the All Ireland
finals.

Annual Health and Safety Conference
and Exhibition.
The
Annual Conference and Exhibition
is currently run in partnership
with the Health and Safety
Executive for Northern Ireland
(HSENI), the Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health
(IOSH), the Trades Unions
and relevant local councils
and statutory bodies. It regularly
attracts an attendance of
over 200 delegates from a
wide range of disciplines
and occupational backgrounds.
Specialists and recognised
experts in their field are
invited to share their experiences
on topics and themes that
reflect current issues affecting
organisations in the province.
Each conference is designed
to be as interactive as possible
thus ensuring that all those
who attend have an opportunity
to learn and further develop
their knowledge.

Newsletter
A
monthly newsletter is produced
by the Group and circulated
to all members. The content
includes up and coming events,
legislation, articles on accidents
and accident prevention, press
releases from the Health and
Safety Executive as well as
other topics relevant to health
and safety. Members are also
encouraged to contribute articles
for publication in newsletter
which may be of interest to
other members or assist them
in the further development of
their own safety management
systems.
Workshops
and Seminars
Increasingly
the Group are organising short
half day workshops and seminars
in subject areas relevant to
the membership. These are provided
usually in response to membership
requests and usually involve
presentations by expert speakers.
The workshops and seminars focus
on practical application of
legislation as well as case
histories from organisations,
who by way of their experiences,
can benefit the membership in
improving the safety related
performance in their own organisations.
The format of the workshops
and seminars, which are usually
two/three hours in duration,
means that members representatives
are away from their workplaces
for the minimum amount of time.

Schools seminar
In
keeping with the Group's aim
of promoting health and safety
to senior school pupils the
Group offers organises and delivers
full day seminars to school
pupils who are preparing to
go on work experience for the
first time. The seminar programme
is designed to provide the pupils
with a greater appreciation
of health and safety in the
workplace and how it affects
them.

Partnership
The
Group firmly believes that the
promotion of health and safety
is best carried out in partnership
with other like minded and in
this regard the Group has developed
effective partnerships and working
relationships with a number
of organisations and these include;
HSENI, IOSH, NISO, the Northern
Ireland committee of the Irish
Congress of Trades Unions (ICTU),
the Northern Ireland Construction
Safety Group (NICON) and other
relevant bodies.

Accidents
and cases of work related ill
health can happen in both the
public, private and voluntary
sectors and ignorance of the
relevant legislative requirement
or best practice in the area
concerned is no excuse. Everyone
has a part to play in improving
health and safety standards
at work. As an employer you
are responsible for the management
and control of risk in your
workplace. By joining the Northern
Ireland Safety Group you can
make sure your organisation
has the opportunity to be involved
in and kept up to date with
current thinking, best practice
and legislation relating to
health and safety. Together,
we can help to reduce the unacceptable
